The Temporary and Special Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), led by UBP Deputy Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, responsible for monitoring the legal and judicial process in relation to the earthquake, held a meeting with the Turkish Bars Association in Ankara.

After concluding their contacts in Ankara, the delegation moved on to Adıyaman where it met with Adıyaman Chief Prosecutor Gökhan Şahin.

In addition to the President of the Bars Association, Hasan Esendağlı, the TRNC Ambassador to Ankara İsmet Korukoğlu, and TRNC Consul General in Gaziantep Kerem İzmen were also present at the meeting.

Committee Chairman Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu stated that they had a productive meeting with the newly appointed Chief Prosecutor and received information about the legal process concerning cases filed against contractors of buildings which collapsed leading to the death of dozens of TRNC citizens.

Hasipoğlu emphasized that they would continue to closely and diligently follow the process with determination and sensitivity to ensure that justice is served, and those responsible receive the most severe punishment within the framework of the law.

After completing their contacts in Adıyaman, the committee delegation moved on to Hatay.

There, the delegation was received by Hatay’s Deputy Governors Bekir Sıtkı Dağ and Doğukan Mızrak, followed by a meeting with Hatay Chief Prosecutor Ahmet Çelikkol, where they received information about the process.

Committee Chairman Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, during his meeting with the Hatay Deputy Governors, reminded that, like in Adıyaman, Hatay had also experienced a tragedy that would leave deep scars on their lives for years.

Hasipoğlu emphasized the importance of the legal process, stating, “Justice being served against those responsible for the destruction that cost people’s lives, and the criminals receiving the punishment they deserve, will provide some consolation to us and the families who have lost their loved ones amidst the devastating consequences of the earthquake.”

The delegation is expected to return to the TRNC on Thursday.
