The Earthquake Monitoring and Assessment Centre is being established within the Department of Geology and Mines.
Within the scope of the protocol signed with AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) and the Department of Geology and Mines, work to establish the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Earthquake Monitoring and Evaluation Center has been initiated.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu received AFAD officials who are in TRNC within the scope of the establishment of the Earthquake Monitoring and Evaluation Centre to be established within the Geology and Mining Department.
Speaking during the visit Ataoğlu stated that work will continue rapidly in order for the Center to be established and put into operation as soon as possible.
He stated that in the light of the data and information to be obtained and shared by the Earthquake Monitoring and Evaluation Center, which will be established with the completion of the works, it will be possible to become more ready and resistant to earthquakes.
“We still carry the effect and sorrow of the February 6 earthquake and we will continue to carry it. We lost our Champion Angels and many lives were lost with them. We will be in Adıyaman again in the coming days and we will follow our case. We hope that the court’s decision will set an example and we will become a more earthquake-resistant country both for Motherland Türkiye and for us in the future,” said Ataoğlu.
Stating that they have made and will continue to make their best efforts to ensure that the work continues decisively and quickly, Ataoğlu said that science must be listened to in order to build an earthquake-resistant country.
