Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz issued a message via his social media account in commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the Erenkoy Resistance and the martyrs.
Stating that the Erenkoy Resistance is known as the “Çanakkale Epic” of the Turkish Cypriot people, Yılmaz said that the Erenköy Resistance, which paved the way for the Cyprus Peace Operation, was crowned with the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus thanks to the epic heroism of the mucahids (Turkish Cypriot fighters) and mehmetçiks (Turkish fighters).
“The resistance and the struggles that were waged during the epic Erenköy Resistance are much more meaningful today in terms of the Turkish Cypriot people living in security in their homeland” he wrote.
“As Türkiye we will continue to support the struggle for the independence of the TRNC on every platform. On the 59th anniversary of the Erenkoy Resistance, I commemorate the 4th Squadron Commander Pilot Captain Cengiz Topel and all our martyrs who gave their lives for the sake of independence and our veterans with gratitude” Turkish vice President Cevdet wrote in his message.
