Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the United Nations General Assembly.

President Erdoğan conveyed important messages on the Cyprus issue during the 78th United Nations General Assembly Meeting.

Erdoğan invited the international community to recognize the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and establish diplomatic, political, and economic ties.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday addressed participants at the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations in the UN General Assembly Hall.

“The transformation of the Eastern Mediterranean into a region dominated by peace, prosperity, and stability is only possible through respecting the rights and law of all parties. We do not have our eyes on anyone’s rights, and we will not allow anyone to disregard our rights” Erdoğan said.

Reminding that the 60th anniversary of the Cyprus issue had passed, he stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side had always made sincere efforts to find a just, lasting, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem.

Stating that it was a universally accepted fact that this solution can no longer be based on a federation model, Erdoğan said, “We invite the international community to accept this by recognizing the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and establishing diplomatic, political, and economic ties with this country. We also expect the United Nations Peacekeeping Force on the island to strictly adhere to the neutrality it is tasked with. We do not wish for this already compromised force to face a new loss of reputation in Cyprus.”
