Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that she had the opportunity to evaluate Türkiye-EU relations with Turkish President Erdoğan and said that this relationship is as rich as it is complex and continues forward.
She also expressed the view that negotiations on Cyprus should continue within the framework of the United Nations.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his part said that European Union membership remains a strategic goal for Türkiye.
“Recent developments have further reinforced Türkiye’s position as a key country. We can advance our cooperation with a win-win formula and on the basis of mutual respect,” said Erdoğan.
He also expressed his hope that decisions will be taken at the union summit to be held in two days to remove all restrictions in relations, revive the suspended high-level dialogues, respond to Türkiye’s expectations for updating the Customs Union and accelerate visa processes until visa liberalization is achieved.
