Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said, “We have never avoided a solution in Cyprus, and we will not.”
Speaking after a meeting of his cabinet on Monday, Turkish President Erdoğan stressed that they will not hesitate to contribute to a lasting and fair peace in Cyprus.
Stressing that the Greek Cypriot side should accept the realities on the ground instead of insisting on their demands, Erdoğan stated that their support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was permanent and that their contributions will continue to increase.
Speaking on the Cyprus issue following a cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Complex on Monday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Ankara will not hesitate to take on responsibility to achieve a permanent and fair settlement to the Cyprus problem.
“We have demonstrated our sincerity on this matter in all processes, including the Annan Plan, and we will do so again if necessary,” Erdoğan said.
He also stressed that they had never shied away from seeking a solution based on the realities of the island but stated that the Greek Cypriot side should stop insisting on impositions.
“On the 49th anniversary of the Peace Operation, I once again remember our martyrs with mercy and express my gratitude to our veterans. I want to stress that our support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is enduring, and our contributions in various fields such as agriculture, energy, water, electricity, transportation, and healthcare will continue to increase” he added.
President Erdoğan also evaluated his recent visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Expressing that they shared the Turkish Cypriots joy on the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day, the Turkish President noted that they commemorated the 49th anniversary of the Peace Operation with the inauguration of the new terminal building and runway of Ercan Airport.
Erdoğan stressed that the Ercan Airport, now with a capacity to serve 10 million passengers, was another blessing for the Turkish Cypriot people.
