The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman stated that 2024 was a year of problems in different areas.

He reflected on the year 2024 and shared his expectations for 2025 in an interview to BRT and expressed his view that the government has failed the economy, the public services and foreign policy and therefore called for early elections.

Erhürman noted that 2024 saw a decline in people’s purchasing power and a weakening of economic activity.

He highlighted that all income-generating sectors experienced a significant loss of income simultaneously.

In terms of the Cyprus problem, he stated that 2024 was a year where Turkish Cypriots felt isolated from the world and confined.

He criticized the government, claiming that they have exhausted resources in the economy, public services, and foreign policy, and emphasized the need to move away from this mentality in 2025.

Erhürman argued that the Turkish Cypriot people are fighting for their existence and expressed the sentiment of feeling stateless.

He called for both presidential and early elections in 2025.

Additionally, Erhürman mentioned that although people’s income has increased numerically, their purchasing power has decreased, and further changes to the cost of living will exacerbate this issue.

He warned that the government’s planned steps will worsen the socioeconomic landscape of the country.
