The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman voiced his view regarding the Cyprus issue by saying “Our precondition is that the UN keeps its promises. Political equality, rotating presidency and the active participation of Turkish Cypriots must be accepted.”
The leader of the Republican Turkish Party Tufan Erhürman made statements on the Cyprus issue via a website.
According to the information given by the CTP, Erhürman stated that Turkish Cypriots are one of the two equal founding partners and that the concept of “minority” has never been an issue for Turkish Cypriots.
Pointing out that the informal talks to be held in March are not insignificant, Erhürman emphasized that political equality must be confirmed before the talks begin.
Noting that political equality cannot be opened to discussion, Erhürman said that a fair solution is not possible without ensuring equality in terms of governance and power sharing.
He noted that issues such as the opening of the Haspolat and Luricina crossing points can also be resolved between the two leaders.
Speaking about the relations with Türkiye, Erhürman stated that there should be good relations with Türkiye on the right ground.
“Instead of mutual monologues, a dialogue between equals should be established,” Erhürman said, emphasizing that a solution process without Türkiye is not possible and reminded that the Republic of Türkiye is a guarantor country.
Noting that as CTP, they conveyed the same message to all their interlocutors, Erhürman said, “Our precondition is that the UN keeps its promises. Political equality, rotating presidency and the active participation of Turkish Cypriots must be accepted.”
