The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erhürman, was a guest on the “Söz Onda” program organized by the Ankara City Council.
In the program moderated by Engin Öktem, Erhürman made important statements regarding the Turkish Cypriot people and the Cyprus issue.
In his speech, the CTP leader said, “The perception of Cyprus needs to change.”
Stating that the perception of the Turkish Cypriot people in Türkiye was not at the desired level, he said, “There has been a perception created, fed by TV series and movies, that sees ‘the place as a land of dirty work.’ Even the island’s historical, humanitarian, and cultural values are not well known. We need to work harder to change this perception.”
Speaking about the informal meeting to be held in Geneva next week, Erhürman reminded that they had demanded the United Nations stand by its word before sitting at the negotiation table.
He also outlined the four points put forward by the CTP.
Stressing that they would not sit at the table unless the principle of political equality is accepted, Erhürman said, “There is no political equality in a system where no Turkish Cypriot can ever be president. In all decision-making bodies of the federal state, there should be at least one Turkish Cypriot vote.”
