In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu praised the “historic decision” made by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) to support the two-state solution policy.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that the resolution calls on the international community to recognize TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) as it rightfully deserves.
Ertuğruloğlu highlighted that the resolution underscores the only definitive solution for the island is the acknowledgment of the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, their sovereign equality, and their equal international status.
It said that the two-state solution policy was the sole path to achieving stability and lasting peace in the Mediterranean region.
“The Turkish Parliament as the embodiment of the national will, has once again demonstrated its unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot people under all circumstances. Throughout their existential struggle in Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot people have acted in unity with Motherland Türkiye and have succeeded. At this juncture, the robust and apolitical support from Motherland Türkiye for the ongoing national cause of Cyprus is of paramount importance,” the statement read.
