EU harsh words for Netanyahu

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell reiterated his assertion made in recent weeks that “Israel is the one that created and finances Hamas”.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell continued his criticism of Israel in his speech at a forum at the Next Education University in Madrid, Spain.

“I am not saying that Israel is financing Hamas by sending checks, but it has facilitated the development of Hamas,” Borrell said, reiterating his claim that “Israel is the one who founded and financed Hamas”.

“It is an indisputable fact that Israel is trying to divide the Palestinians by creating a force against the Fatah movement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu is well known to have said publicly in front of his parliamentary group that those who are against the two-state solution must contribute to Hamas and facilitate its financing. I can only repeat this statement.”

On the other hand, Borrell also reiterated his proposal for a two-state solution with a recognized Palestinian state during his speech, criticizing Israel for “opposing it but at the same time not offering any solution”.

He said, “Everyone seems to agree on this except the Netanyahu government, which for 30 years has prevented this solution from being possible. Israel says what it doesn’t want, but it doesn’t say what it wants. What are its solutions? Does it only want security through military measures? There are much better alternatives”.
