Extreme heat set to continue

The scorching heat, affecting our country along with the rest of the region will continue throughout the new week, the Met Office announced on Sunday.

Temperatuers are expected to rise up to 45 degrees Celsius.

The Director of the Meteorology Department, Raif İlker Buran, stated in an announcement to BRT that the sweltering heat will persist until the end of the month.

Stating that temperatures will remain 5 to 8 degrees above the seasonal averages until the end of the month, Buran said that inland areas will experience temperatures around 42-45 degrees Celsius, while coastal regions will see temperatures around 37-40 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra has said that all healthcare services, particular ERs were on standby to deal patients who might experience health problems due to the heat wave.

Speaking to BRT about the effects of extreme heat on public health, Minister Altuğra emphasized the need for citizens to be extremely careful during the hot weather.

She said that the public should avoid going outdoors during the hottest hours of the day, particularly patients suffering from heart disease, diabetes, kidney, and asthma.
