Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu congratulated the Speaker of Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Parliament’s acceptance as an observer member to Turkic States Parliamentary Assembly (TÜRKPA).
Visiting Töre on Tuesday, Feyzioğlu said the development was extremely important.
“I hope we will see the days when the TRNC will be recognized as an equal sovereign state in the international arena,” he said.
Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part expressed his happiness over the TRNC’s membership, adding that Türkiye was always by the TRNC’s side.
Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu who visited the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Tuesday congratulated him over the Republic’s Assembly’s acceptance as an observer member at the 12th General Assembly of the Turkic States Parliamentary Assembly held in Ankara.
“The TRNC’s observer membership under its constitutional name is extremely important. We are moving forward step by step. It is important to be a member as a state rather than an observer. The TRNC’s observer membership to the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) came following Turkish President Erdoğan’s call to the international community for the recognition of the TRNC. All these developments are reflections of our successful policy and will continue,” Feyzioğlu said.
Also speaking, the Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre welcomed the decision to accept the Republic’s Assembly as an observer member to TURKPA.
Noting that Hungary and Turkmenistan were also observer members and that they had met with them, Töre said, “Hopefully there will be brighter days with the work carried out by Türkiye.”
He added that they also had the opportunity to examine the Turkish Defence Industry in Ankara.
Ambassador Feyzioğlu for his part stressed that Türkiye was a serious competitor among other countries in the defence industry adding that they were proud of this.
Pointing out that there were those who despise the observer membership of the TRNC, the Turkish Ambassador said, “It is important to be accepted as the TRNC. The TRNC state is accepted as a state with equal status, and according to international law, it includes all the conditions of being a state.”
Türkiye backs its call for the rightful and legitimate international recognition of the TRNC by upgrading the TRNC’s infrastructure. It gives the message that the TRNC will continue to exist. Turkish President Erdoğan’s instructions to do whatever is necessary for the development of the TRNC, the project to bring water to the TRNC via a pipeline, the opening of the new airport terminal, all of these are indicators that the TRNC is permanent. It means that there is a state here,” Feyzioğlu stressed.
He added that plans to achieve interconnectivity with Türkiye will have great economic benefits and will also allow cooperation with Greek Cypriots.
Explaining that, in addition to this, work was continuing to develop roads and the health infrastructure of the TRNC, Feyzioğlu said that a more centrally located health centre will be established in the Karpaz peninsula to speed up the transfer of emergency patients and the foundation of a 500-bed state hospital will be laid in Lefkoşa.
Ambassador Feyzioğlu added that the social housing project will also come to life.
“We are very lucky to have Türkiye, the motherland, with us at all times. I thank everyone individually. They make important contributions to our infrastructure. If the Greek Cypriots trust the EU and follow them, then Türkiye is always by the TRNC’s side,” Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre stressed.
