The Chairman of the Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Javashir Feyziyev called on the Central Asian Turkic states to establish relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Feyziyev said that as a result of the determined policy of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, relations with the TRNC have experienced a special revival in recent years.

Javanshir Feyziyev, a member of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, made statements on the inter-parliamentary friendship relations between Azerbaijan and the TRNC in an exclusive interview with TRT/Azerbaijan website.

Reminding that Turkish Cypriots faced many isolations from the 1960s until the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus declared its independence in 1983, Feyziyev said that even after independence was declared, the Western world as a whole refused to recognize the rights of Turkish Cypriots.

“It seems that Europe does not want to see not only Turkish Cypriots but the Turkish people in general. The postponement of Türkiye’s EU membership for half a century is an indication of the West’s double standard policy” said Feyziyev.

He emphasized that in the current situation, the Turkish Cypriots have no choice but to preserve and develop their state, adding that the great Turkic world cannot remain indifferent to this turbulent fate of the Turkish Cypriots.

“The TRNC, which today is officially recognized only by Türkiye, needs political, economic and moral support. The establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Working Group was born out of this necessity and we are trying to provide this support to our Turkish Cypriot compatriots within our authority” said Feyziyev.

“I believe that the establishment of political, economic and cultural relations between all independent Turkic states and the TRNC can make a great contribution to the removal of the TRNC from international isolation and international recognition of its independence. Therefore, we call on the Central Asian Turkic states to establish relations with the TRNC and provide political and moral support to our compatriots living on the island,” he added.

Feyziyev stated that there has been a special revival in relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in recent years as a result of the determined policy of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and said, “Our aim is to contribute to the integration of the TRNC into the international political and economic system.”
