Fidan: Two separate peoples, two separate states in Cyprus was confirmed

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that initiatives for the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people continue.

He made the statement while presenting the 2025 budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related institutions at the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Commission.

In his speech during budgetary discussions Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan touched upon the Cyprus issue.

Stating that the report prepared by Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Cyprus, after contact with Türkiye on the Cyprus issue, revealed that there is no common ground between the parties, Fidan underlined the fact that there are two separate peoples and two separate states on the island of Cyprus has been confirmed once again.

“We continue our initiatives for the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people. We are emphasizing direct flights and direct trade with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and providing the TRNC leadership with the opportunity to contact their counterparts in third countries” said Fidan.

He said that as a result of these efforts, the TRNC’s participation in the Organization of Turkic States Summits was ensured at the highest level.
