The Fire Department has reminded the public that lighting fires for any purposes is forbidden until the end of the fire season on October 31.
The ban came into force at the start of the month.
It said that fires lit outside of designated areas could grow out of control.
In a written statement on Monday, the Fire Department warned the public against lighting fires for any purpose including bonfires or barbecues outside of specified areas.
The department pointed out that fires lit in open areas could cause bush or forest fires leading to extensive damage.
It also warned that activities that could spark a fire such as welding or use of agricultural machinery should be carried out away from trees, dry grass or shrubs. A fire extinguisher as well as other tools should also be ready when carrying out such activities in case a fire does break out.
Drivers are also advised not to throw cigarette buds out of their windows.
The Fire Department reminded that the prohibition is in place between May 1 and October 31.
If anyone perceives smoke or fire they should call immediately the emergency number 199, the fire department or the forestry department on 177.
