60 artworks have been created from unused equipment and materials in the archives and storage rooms of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) through recycling as part of events marking the corporation’s 60th anniversary of establishment.

These artworks produced under the theme “Flag/Peace” are being showcased at the premises of the corporation.

The exhibition was unveiled with a ceremony at the corporation on Wednesday, which marks the anniversary of BRTK’s first television broadcast.

The project, carried out by the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry ofTourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, in collaboration with Telsim sponsorship, was unveiled at Bayrak Radio Television Corporation on Wednesday morning as part of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day celebrations.

The curation of the project was undertaken by Ayhatun Ateşin.

Artists also made significant contributions to the project, which was prepared with a focus on recycling and productivity.

The artworks created from recycled unused equipments and materials from the institution’s archives and storage will be exhibited at the BRT Radio Television Corporation until October 19th and will later at the BRT Broadcasting History Museum.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, the Director of BRTK Meryem Özkurt said that the 60 pieces of work represented the corporation’s 60 years of broadcasting history.

“We couldn’t bear throwing out old equipment that has been used throughout BRTK’s 60 years of broadcasting life and so together with our project coordinator Ayhatun Ateşin, her fellow artists and academics we decided to create something unique about our history. For that I would like to thank everyone very much,” she said.

The projects curator Ayhatun Ateşin for her part said that this was the first exhibition in the TRNC created through recycling of old materials and equipment.

“We preserved the memory of old and forgotten technology through recycling. Each piece used in the artworks carries a piece of the corporation’s history, its operators and the broadcasts produced,” she added.

Also delivering a few words, the Chairman of the BRTK’s Board of Directors Salih Can Doratlı said that BRTK had come a long way from a makeshift radio station powered by car batteries to a modern HD broadcasting corporation.

He said that the accomplishments of BRTK made him proud.
