The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement on Monday regarding the racist attack against a Turkish Cypriot woman in South Cyprus.
The ministry called for the perpetrators to be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
In a written statement issued on Monday, the TRNC Foreign Ministry said that such racist attacks on the Greek Cypriot side were growing by the day, and the latest victim of the prevailing racist mentality in the south that sees Turkish Cypriots as a minority was Asya Karaali.
“We have been following through media reports that racist attacks on the Greek Cypriot side are growing, which is a reflection of the hegemonic and racist mentality claiming sole ownership of the island,” the statement read.
“Our citizen, Asya Karaali, was first subjected to harassment during her visit to South Cyprus, and when her Turkish identity became apparent, she was severely beaten. We strongly condemn this audacious attack. We demand that the Greek Cypriot security authorities swiftly bring the perpetrators of this racist attack to justice and impose the necessary punishment” the statement added.
