FM Ertuğruloğlu attends ECO meeting in Azerbaijan

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has said that there are two separate peoples and two sovereign states in Cyprus.

Ertuğruloğlu’s words came in Shusha Azerbaijan where he attended the 27th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), hosted by the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu who addressed the meeting pointed out that the TRNC has hosted numerous ECO meetings.

He also pointed out that there are two separate peoples and two sovereign states in Cyprus and a two-state solution is the only realistic solution model on the island.

Ertuğruloğlu also met with his Turkish and Pakistani counterparts Hakan Fidan and Jalil Abbas Jilani on the sidelines of the meeting.

The TRNC Foreign Minister also gave an interview to Turkish State Television (TRT) highlighting the strong relations and cooperation between the TRNC and Azerbaijan.

While Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan are members of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the TRNC has an observer status.

The meeting reviewed the status of activities of the ECO and approved some fresh proposals as recommended by senior officials.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Republic of Türkiye signed the Charter of the ECO Clean Energy Centre to be established in Baku.

The next meeting of the ECO Foreign Ministers Council will be held in Iran in 2024
