FM Ertuğruloğlu met with UN DPPA DiCarlo

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu met with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani during his visit to New York as part of the 78th UN General Assembly session.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated that as long as the Greek Cypriot side is treated as a “state” and the Turkish Cypriot side as a “community,” no effort will yield results.

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu on Sunday met with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo as part of his engagements in New York.

During the meeting, Ertuğruloğlu provided information to DiCarlo about the Yiğitler-Pile road project and emphasized the determination of the Turkish Cypriot side to complete this humanitarian project.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Ertuğruloğlu stated that it is not possible to restart negotiations based on the failed federation model after 50 years of failed attempts.

He stressed that the international community needed to diagnose the Cyprus problem correctly, and that as long as the Greek Cypriot side was treated as a “state” and the Turkish Cypriot side as a “community,” no effort will yield results.

Ertuğruloğlu emphasized the need for an approach based on the realities on the island, focusing on the equal sovereignty and equal international status of the parties.

Meanwhile Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu also met with his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani.

During the meeting, Jilani expressed that Pakistan’s support for the Turkish Cypriots as friends and brothers will continue.
