FM: US openly taking sides in Cyprus
Date Added: 18 May 2023

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding United States warships in Cyprus.

The statement noted that the US has no disregard for the balance on the island and is openly taking sides.

It also noted that as always in order to safeguard the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ security the necessary steps will be taken together with Motherland Türkiye.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the anchorage of the guided rocket destroyer of the 6th Fleet of the US Navy that was operating in the Eastern Mediterranean, at the port of Limassol as part of a ‘port visit’ on 16 May 2023.

In the statement, it was emphasized that the transfer of warships of the American Navy to the island of Cyprus twice in a short period of time is a new example of the US’s disregard for the balance on the island and is openly taking sides on the island.

It also noted that the US trying to cover up the gravity of its visit by simplifying and justifying it by using the so-called phrases ‘partnership’ and ‘planned visit’ are also far from convincing.

“The best example of this is the removal of the ban on arms sales imposed by the US on the Greek Cypriot Administration in 2022 and including them into the National Guard Bureau State Partnership Program within the US Department of Defence” the statement noted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that necessary steps will be taken together with the Motherland Türkiye, in order to ensure the security of the Turkish Cypriot people in the face of these developments.
