Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu evaluated the decision by some member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to open embassies in South Cyprus during a program he took part in on BRT.
He expressed his dissatisfaction with some member states of the Organization of Turkic States opening embassies in Southern Cyprus, however, he urged people to not criticize the policy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) solely based on this incident.
He argued that the decision should be seen in the context of the European Union’s (EU) flawed perception of the Cyprus island.
Ertuğruloğlu highlighted that the EU has supported the Greek Cypriot side, hindering recognition of the TRNC, and that the EU’s values do not align with the reality of the situation in Cyprus.
He emphasized that the TRNC will not back down from its commitment to sovereign state policy, despite pressure.
Ertuğruloğlu also mentioned that the Greek Cypriot side seeks a solution that aligns with EU norms, including unrestricted movement and settlement, whereas the TRNC is determined to stand firm on its principles.
