Justice and Development Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik said that he finds it to be very worthy for foreign states to open offices in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Çelik made the statement at a press conference after the AK Party Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting held at the Party Headquarters.

Giving a press conference, the Justice and Development Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik reiterated that he found foreign states opening offices in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) very worthwhile.

Stating that the politics carried out by the Greek Cypriot side and Greece show that they are far from seeing the TRNC as an equal state, Çelik said, “We have seen this on various occasions. Every time they start the negotiations process, they are the ones who run away from the table. But then they go and present it differently in Europe, in certain circles in Europe”.

Çelik said that the Mediterranean is paying the price for the short sighted decision of the European Union (EU), and added that the EU unilaterally admitting the Greek Cypriots into the Union as a pirate state under the Republic of Cyprus is contrary to EU practices.

“The problem remains unsolved. Greek Cypriots alone cannot represent a republic called the Republic of Cyprus. There is no consent of the Turkish Cypriot side. Therefore, either you will take in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the same time or you will postpone these negotiations until the problem is solved” said Çelik.

He said that the short sighted and prejudiced decision of the EU is causing everyone in the entire Mediterranean to pay a price.

“Türkiye’s position now is that this process will now be carried out as two equal states” said Çelik.
