Former GC FM admits to Muratağa massacre

Former Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Markoulli made a significant admission on social media regarding the Muratağa massacre of 1974.

Sharing the last photograph of elementary school children killed during the massacre, Markoulli acknowledged that the Turkish Cypriots were murdered by the EOKA-B.

In her post, Markoulli stated, “All the children were killed by EOKA-B. This photograph once again highlights the tragedy.” She emphasized that despite knowing the perpetrators of the massacre, the Greek Cypriot administration has taken no action on the matter.

Former Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Markoulli took to social media to share the photograph of Turkish Cypriot children who were killed by Greek Cypriots, accusing the Greek Cypriot administration of failing to take any steps against the perpetrators of the massacre.

Markoulli shared a photograph of the elementary school children who were killed during the Muratağa massacre in 1974, noting that the Turkish Cypriots were murdered by EOKA-B.

She highlighted that despite knowing the perpetrators of the massacre, the Greek Cypriot administration has taken no steps on the matter.

Expressing her outrage, Markoulli stated, “No one has been punished for these heinous crimes.”

In response to her post, some Greek Cypriot users commented that they were unaware of the massacre, while others argued that there were justifications for it.

Following the reactions, Markoulli made the photograph her cover photo on social media.

This admission by Markoulli is reported to be the first acknowledgment by a Greek Cypriot official regarding the massacre of civilians in Muratağa. Eight years ago, Markoulli also shared photos of the mass graves of Turkish Cypriots who were massacred in Muratağa-Atlılar.
