Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler reminded that the armament activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus are damaging the delicate balance on the island.

Speaking at the 2024 Annual Evaluation Meeting, Güler emphasized that “the only and definitive solution on the island is the registration of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people”.

The Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler addressed the Cyprus issue at the Annual Evaluation Meeting for media representatives at the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.

Pointing out that no results have been obtained from the solution methods put forward so far, Güler said, “We closely follow all kinds of developments that may disrupt the balance in Cyprus and pose a threat to the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The recent increase in activity on the island of Cyprus following the developments in the Middle East and the armament activities of the Greek Cypriot side harm the delicate balance on the island.”

Reminding that a “Roadmap for Defense Cooperation” agreement was signed between the United States of America and the Greek Cypriot Administration, Güler stated that this attitude harms the neutrality of the United States of America towards the island of Cyprus.

“It is also unacceptable for the US to announce that it will extend the decision to lift the arms embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration, which it took in 2020, expanded its scope in 2022 and extended it in 2023, for one year as of October 1, 2024” said Güler adding that the only and definitive solution on the island is the registration of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people.
