Gala for “Mağusa Port Mourning 1916” held at BRTK

The gala for the screening of the documentary “Mağusa Port Mourning 1916” was held at Bayrak Radio Television Corporation.

Researcher and musician Fehrazad Gürsoy shared information about the documentary, while academic and writer Prof. Dr. Ulvi Keser gave information about Turkish prisoners of war captured during the Battle of Çanakkale (Gallipoli) and brought to Cyprus.

The gala screening of the documentary that tells the story of Turkish Cypriots who assisted Turkish soldiers who were captured during the Battle of Çanakkale (Gallipoli) in 1916 was realized on Wednesday night.

The screening that took place at the BRTK Oval Studio was attended by state and government officials.

Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu and Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra attended the event.

Speaking during the event, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu thanked Bayrak Radio Television Corporation and everyone who contributed to the project.

“Those who do not know their past have no future,” said Feyzioğlu adding that the Turkish nation wrote a great epic during the First World War and was not defeated.

“The Ottoman Empire was forced to lay down its arms because its allies surrendered. The Turkish nation wrote a magnificent epic during the Battle of Çanakkale, inflicting heavy defeat and loss on powers that sought to bring down the Ottoman Empire,” said Feyzioğlu.

Also noting that the Turkish nation wrote a great epic in the national struggle in Anatolia, Feyzioğlu said that the Turkish Cypriot people were important actors in the struggles and victories achieved by the Turkish nation.

Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriots succeeded in putting up an unbelievable resistance between 1963 and 1974 despite overwhelming odds, Feyzioğlu said that the Turkish Cypriots emerged victorious from a great struggle and wrote another epic in 1974.

He added that the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriots still continued today.

Feyzioğlu said that the Turkish Cypriot people should be proud of their state, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
