Martyrs who fell during the defence of the villages of Gaziveren and Çamlıköy were remembered in two separate ceremonies on Wednesday morning.

The 61st anniversary of the Gaziveren and Çamlıköy Resistance and the martyrs who lost their lives in these struggles were commemorated with ceremonies.

The first ceremony of the day was held in front of the Martyrs’ Monument in Gaziveren.

The ceremony began with the laying of wreaths at the monument in order of protocol.

This was followed by a moment of silence, a gun salute, and the raising of flags to the sound of the National Anthem.

Later in the ceremony, a speech on the significance of the day was delivered by the Principal of Gaziveren Kindergarten, Nadir Denizer.

Stressing that the Turkish Cypriot people demonstrated a rare form of resistance in history to protect their lives, property, honor, and flag, Denizer highlighted that, thanks to those who fought on the frontlines—men, women, and children alike—and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland 61 years ago in Gaziveren, we are able to live freely under our flag on these lands today.

The ceremony concluded with poetry readings and the observance of religious rites.

A second ceremony was held in front of the Martyr Emin İzzet Bust in Çamlıköy.

This ceremony also began with the laying of wreaths at the monument in order of protocol.

It was followed by a moment of silence, a gun salute, and the raising of flags to the sound of the National Anthem.

Later, a speech on the significance of the day was given by Fatoş Adıgüzel Borucu, a student from Lefke İstiklal Primary School.

Following the speech, the ceremony concluded with poetry readings and the observance of religious rites.
