The newly appointed Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces (GKK) Brigadier General İlker Görgülü paid courtesy visits to President Ersin Tatar and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Monday.
Receiving the newly appointed commander, President Ersin Tatar reminded that the Security Forces had been transformed into a regular army after 1976, and with the strong support of the Turkish Armed Forces, played a significant role in ensuring the safety of the Turkish Cypriot people as well as maintaining peace and tranquillity.
Pointing out that peace and stability were established on the island following the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, Tatar noted the importance of strengthening the Security Forces by taking necessary measures and benefiting from technological advancements.
President Tatar also wished Brigadier General İlker Görgülü success in his new position.
Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre who also received the commander said that the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces was the pride and joy of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Stressing that serving in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was a privilege not granted to everyone, he noted that Brigadier General İlker Görgülü was currently the highest-ranking commander of the Security Forces Command.
Referring to the importance they placed on the commanders coming from Türkiye, Töre expressed his belief that Brigadier General İlker Görgülü will perform his duties excellently.
The Parliamentary Speaker reiterated that this state was established thanks to the struggle of martyrs and veterans, and that it was the duty of both the military and the civilian authorities to protect the TRNC.
In his speeches during the meetings, Brigadier General İlker Görgülü expressed pride in being appointed to the Security Forces Command, which is the continuation of the heroic Turkish Resistance Organization.
Brigadier General Görgülü also stressed that he will work 24/7 to advance the Security Forces Command from the point where his predecessors left off.
