A new transportation line between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Türkiye has begun.
Ferry services between Girne and Anamur started today.
President Ersin Tatar made a statement the TRT regarding the start of the ferry services by drawing attention to the importance of the Anamur region to Turkish Cypriots.
Reminding that the supply of water from Anamur to the TRNC is a historical project, Tatar said, “This water has been flowing into Geçitköy Dam since 2015. For 9 years, this water has been flowing uninterruptedly and this amount is 75 million cubic meters per year. Our island is arid and this water is a great blessing for our island. The main meaning of Anamur for the Turkish Cypriot people is that it is the closest point to us.”
President Tatar emphasized that the resource they have the most as an island is renewable energy and said that the transition to the interconnected system is of great importance.
“This can also be seen when looking at the agreements made with European Union countries; every country needs to be interconnected. The Republic of Türkiye is connected to this system. Therefore, we can also be connected to this system with an interconnected system. However, since the TRNC is not recognized by the EU, there is a problem here and these problems need to be overcome. Efforts are underway to overcome these problems with the instructions of Turkish President Erdoğan”, said Tatar
