Ataoğlu has also said that the government is working to support livestock farmers who have been affected by the floods.

“We will resolve the grievances of our people,” Ataoğlu said in a written statement. “We are keeping the Lapta Youth Camp, which is affiliated with our ministry, ready for our citizens living in the areas affected by the floods. Our teams are on duty to meet the accommodation and food needs of our citizens who are in a state of distress.”

Wishing those affected a speedy recovery; the Deputy prime minister highlighted the importance of preparing for such disasters in the future.

“Citizens who are in difficulty can contact the district governor’s office, the municipality, or the Youth Department to help them move to the Lapta Youth Camp,” Ataoğlu said.

He added that Binboğa, which produces and sells animal feed was currently offering free supplies to farmers in Geçitköy which was one of the worst-hit areas.

Ataoğlu said that support will continue in the coming days to ensure that the livestock breeders in the area can recover as soon as possible.

Earlier, President Ersin Tatar and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel inspected the village of Geçitköy, the fishing harbour in Lapta and the Gazimağusa area which were hit by hail storms and floods.

Prime Minister Üstel said that he had given instructions to those who had suffered immense damage from the storms after experts determined the exact extent of the destruction.
