Date Added: 26 September 2023

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel unveiled the government’s newest 5-year development programme at a conference held on Tuesday morning.

Stating that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is seeking to embrace the world, needs to make a well-planned development move without delay, Üstel emphasized that Special Expert Commissions will be established for the preparation of the ” Five-Year Development Plan,” the fourth of its kind, which will be carried out under the coordination of the State Planning Organization, and that the principle of inclusivity will be at the forefront.

“The Five-Year Development Plan of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will not only shape the next 5 years but also shed light on the development of our country for 10, even 20 years into the future,” the prime minister said.

He also mentioned that they will complete the 5-year development plan in the first quarter of 2024 and share it with the public.

Üstel said that the development plan, which had been drafted years ago but could not be implemented for various reasons, is a forward-looking plan that will include efforts to bring the country to a high level of prosperity.

He pointed out that data-based and unplanned growth is one of the country’s biggest challenges.

“If you don’t have sufficient information, you cannot plan the population. If you can’t plan the population, you can’t plan education, healthcare, transportation, energy needs, water needs, housing needs, public services, and investments. That’s why we attach great importance to the 5-year development plan, and in the first quarter of 2024, we will implement the plan and update our vision based on this data. Our 40 years of experience in self-governance has led us to specific goals and milestones. With this experience gained, we should define our 50th-year vision and even our 60th-year vision more effectively,” he said.
