The Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler said “The justification and necessity of the Cyprus Peace Operation, which Türkiye carried out as a guarantor country within the framework of international law, is understood from the security environment that has emerged and continues to this day.”
Minister Güler emphasized that Türkiye’s stance towards a two-state solution on the island and its support to the Turkish Cypriots will always continue.
Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler spoke at a videoconference meeting with Turkish Armed Forces command staff and unit commanders.
According to a statement made by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, in his speech, Minister Güler reminded that the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, in which Türkiye prevented harm against the Turkish Cypriots, will be celebrated on July 20.
Güler said, “The justification and necessity of this operation, which we carried out as a guarantor country within the framework of international law, can be understood from the secure environment that has emerged and lasted until today.”
Noting that Türkiye’s stance towards the two-state solution on the island and its support to the Turkish Cypriots will continue, Güler said, “Even at times when there are intense activities, the heroic Turkish armed forces are determined to fulfil all kinds of duties assigned to them for the rights and interests of our country and the peace and security of our noble nation.”
