Gülgün Dairy Products LTD has become the first Turkish Cypriot dairy products producer to receive the Protected Designation of Origin certificate (PDO) within the scope of the European Union quality program.
The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz and Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu visited the company’s facility in Cihangir Village, and congratulated them on their success.
Speaking during the visit the Minister for Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu said that since they came to office they have been working hard for the restructuring of the industry.
He said the main reason they have been making changes is so that export-oriented production in the country can reach more people.
Emphasizing that the growth of sectors that produce such products can carry the name of the country abroad is of great importance for them, Amcaoğlu noted that the law on domestic products will soon be on the agenda.
He noted that they have been carrying out serious work with the EU on animal diseases and retraction project for years, and that they have not made any concessions.
“Conditions in the country have also been improving” he said.
Congratulating Gülgün Süt Mamülleri on their success and pioneering status, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursu Oğuz noted that two more companies have applied to the EU to receive the Protected Designation of Origin certificate (PDO).
