At the January 8the PACE General Assembly session, the report and resolution on “The need for an absolute and immediate end to the humanitarian crisis for women, children and vulnerable people in Gaza” prepared by Dutch Rapporteur Saskia Kluit was adopted with 90 yes votes and 18 no votes.
The chairman of the Republic Assembly’s PACE Delegation Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said in a written statement that the resolution states that the Israeli attacks on Gaza, which began after October 7, 2023 and continued for 15 months, have caused an unimaginable humanitarian crisis and that innocent women and children are the biggest victims in Gaza.
Stating that the resolution expresses PACE’s satisfaction with the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas and calls on all parties to take the necessary steps to achieve lasting peace, Hasipoğlu said that he followed the discussion and vote on the Gaza Report together with the Palestinian MP and Diplomat, Bernard Sabella and Ahmed Abuhashish.
Hasipoğlu stated that despite the strong objections of Israel and some of its neighboring countries, the report was approved with a majority of votes.
“I stood side by side with two Palestinian MPs in the parliament and shared their excitement. Now a new era begins in the two-state solution model in Palestine. I know that in order to rebuild their lives and homes, Palestinians need real peace and the support of countries that believe in justice, especially our homeland Türkiye. The right of Palestinian women and children to live in peace must be realized and their lives of migration must end” said Hasipoğlu.
He continued to state that during the discussion and voting of the Gaza Report at the Council of Europe, the Palestinians thanked the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Republic of Türkiye PACE delegations for their support.
