National Unity Party (UBP) General Secretary and Gazimağusa MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu evaluated his meetings at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Noting that they continue to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard through useful contacts and meetings, Hasipoğlu said, “European politicians are no longer questioning the federation solution, but the common ground.”

UBP MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu answered questions on a live broadcast on BRT.

Pointing out that the perspective of the Council of Europe and European institutions on the Cyprus issue is known, Hasipoğlu said, “However, we can now say this clearly. In the past, every time we went, they used to ask us how the federal solution talks were going. Now they ask us if there is common ground, because they have started to realize the current reality in Cyprus.”

Stating that they brought up the arrests made by the Greek Cypriot side over property while at PACE, Hasipoğlu reiterated that the practice against human rights is hampering trust between the two parties.

“While the Immovable Property Commission, which is accepted by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as an effective domestic law, accepts the applications of 8 thousand Greek Cypriot citizens, we demanded that the Greek Cypriot administration accept this judicial remedy and put an end to these unjust arrests” said Hasipoğlu.

Stating that they do not expect a dramatic change in the context of comprehensive solution negotiations from the Cyprus Summit that is planned to be held next month, Hasipoğlu stated that the Greek Cypriot side should first learn to cooperate with the Turkish Cypriot side and asked “if cooperation cannot be made, how will we agree on the solution model”.

Hasipoğlu emphasized that the Greek Cypriot side is jeopardizing both the peace in the region and the multilateral meeting planned for March with its armament.
