Health Minister Dinçyürek: Early diagnosis vital in the fight against cancer

Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek issued a statement on February 4th World Cancer Day.

In his statement, Minister Dinçyürek emphasized the importance of the fight against cancer and early diagnosis.

He touched upon the activities carried out at the Early Diagnosis Cancer Screening Centre affiliated to the Ministry of Health and stated that women between the ages of 30-65 are screened for cervical cancer, women between the ages of 40-69 are screened for breast cancer and women and men between the ages of 50-74 are screened for colon cancer.

Minister Dinçyürek emphasized that early diagnosis plays a critical role in the fight against cancer and stated that as the Ministry of Health, they support the people’s fight against cancer with the programs carried out.

He stated that World Cancer Day is an important opportunity to raise public awareness in the fight against cancer and invited the public to participate in regular health screenings and protect their health.

He also stated that despite the great advances made in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer today, it has become a major public health problem.

Minister Dinçyürek stated that a significant portion of cancers that develop due to environmental and genetic factors are associated with environmental factors such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, being overweight or obese and exposure to infections.

He said that focusing especially on preventable cancer types has become even more important in terms of prevention strategies, emphasizing that death via cancer can be prevented through screening and treatment that can make a great contribution to the quality of life when detected early.
