The Higher Evaluation Council convened and during the meeting a decision was taken to promote Infantry Staff Colonel Mehmet Ali Akbaş, serving under the Security Forces Command, to Brigadier General, effective as of August 30, 2024.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Ersin Tatar.

The Higher Evaluation Council held its August meeting and discussed the status of the personnel who will be promoted to Brigadier General among the Colonels of the Security Forces Command.

Accordingly it was decided that Infantry Staff Colonel Mehmet Ali Akbaş, who serves under the Security Forces Command, will be promoted to Brigadier General, effective as of August 30, 2024.

According to the information given by the Security Forces Command Press Office; “Infantry Staff Colonel Mehmet Ali AKBAŞ was born in Gazimağusa in 1976. He graduated from the Land War College in 1998 with the rank of Lieutenant and from the Infantry School in 1999.

Colonel Akbaş, who served as Platoon and Company Commander in different units between1999-2013 and as a Plan Officer at the Security Forces Command Headquarters, served as the Commander of the 10th Infantry Battalion of the 4th Infantry Regiment between 2013-2015, Logistics Branch Directorate, Civil

Military Cooperation Branch Directorate, General Plan and Program Branch Directorate between 2015-2019, Military Attaché of the TRNC Ankara Military Attaché between 2019-2021, 4th Infantry Regiment Commander between 2021-2022, and Chairman of the Supervision and Evaluation Board in 2022.

In 2022, Colonel Akbaş was appointed as the Security Forces Command Representative in the Police Services Commission and the Police Organization Planning Board by being appointed to the Commanding Officer of the Security Forces Command Headquarters in 2022 and he is still carrying out this duty.”

In 2009, Colonel Akbaş completed the National and International Security Strategies Management and Leadership Training at the Land Warfare Academy; in 2013, he completed his Master’s Degree in International Relations Program at the European University of Lefke Institute of Science, Health and Social Sciences; and in 2016, he completed the Higher Dispatch and Administration Training at the Armed Forces Academy; he is married, has two children and speaks English.”
