The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, alongside Türkiye’s Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Yasin Ekrem Serim, visited the villages of Kayalar and Sadrazamköy on Thursday to examine the ongoing infrastructure works in the area.
During the visit, Ambassador Serim announced that the Güzelyalı-Sadrazamköy road would be renovated with Türkiye’s support and is expected to be completed and opened to the public by September 2025.
The visit allowed both Minister Arıklı and Ambassador Serim to meet with residents and discuss the infrastructure improvements.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, the project involves the construction of a 16km stretch of road between Güzelyalı and Sadrazamköy, which will be entirely financed and managed by Türkiye.
The Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Yasin Ekrem Serim emphasized that Turkish authorities had granted all necessary approvals, and once the expropriation issues were resolved, the roadworks would begin.
He reiterated that the road would be fully operational by September 2025.
Minister Arıklı stated that the local budget had allocated ₺20m for the maintenance and repair of the road.
However, Ambassador Serim proposed taking over the project’s costs to ensure that a more comprehensive and high-quality road could be built.
“We gladly accepted this offer,” said Arıklı.
Arıklı also noted that the majority of road construction in the TRNC is carried out through protocols signed with Türkiye, while some non-protocol roads are funded through the local budget.
He added that efforts are underway to revive the TRNC Roads Department and expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Serim for his commitment to improving the Kayalar-Sadrazamköy roads.
This project is expected to significantly improve transportation and accessibility in the region.
