The heads and delegations of the Türkiye- Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups visited the Eastern Mediterranean University and the fenced-off town of Maraş on Tuesday as part of their contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The delegations who were accompanied by the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre met with the University’s Acting Rector and Vice Rector Prof. Dr Ali Öztüren and head of the University’s Board of Trustees Dr Erdal Özcenk.
Receiving the delegations, Dr Erdal Özcenk expressed the view that the visit was extremely important in terms of cooperation between the three countries and to further develop relations.
The Chairman of the Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Cavanşir Feyziyev received information on the number of Azeri students studying and Azeri academics working at the university.
Following the visit to the university, the delegations toured the fenced-off town of Maraş.
Töre speaking there said that Maraş was owned by the Evkaf administration and that those with property claims in the area had to apply to the Immovable Property Commission.
He expressed the view that Maraş should not be kept in its current state for another 50 years.
Feyziyev for his part pointed out that there were great similarities between Maraş and Nagorno Karabakh.
