Today is December 3rd, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The Cyprus Turkish Disabled Persons Federation organized events to mark the December 3rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Within the scope of the activities that began with a press statement this morning, a 13-point package containing the general expectations of the disabled will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

On the other hand, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Federation of Persons with Disabilities Derviş Yücetürk issued a written statement to mark the day.

In his statement, Yücetürk stated that the associations, which come to the forefront with all kinds of social and economic activities in order to integrate around 6,500 disabled people living in the TRNC into society, have achieved many successful works with their self-sacrificing efforts.

He stated that with the law on the protection, rehabilitation and employment of the disabled, a total of 800 disabled people have been provided with job opportunities in the public and private sectors and more than 5 thousand disabled people have been provided with the opportunity to receive financial assistance, but noted that they have still not reached the point they want neither in employment nor in financial assistance.

“600 disabled people are waiting for work and love. Since 2006, we are deeply hurt by the lack of satisfactory employment in the public sector. Financial assistance, which is far from the understanding of the social state and not calculated in accordance with today’s economic conditions should be re-evaluated and improved to meet today’s living standards”, said Yücetürk.
