Iran-Israel tensions discussed at high-level meeting

A meeting was held at the Presidential Palace on Sunday after Iran launched drone strikes at Israel, following an earlier meeting of the same council on Friday amid growing concerns.

A review and risk assessment of the latest situation in the Middle East was carried out at the meeting which was also attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting which lasted shortly over an hour, President Ersin Tatar said Türkiye was the strongest country in the region and, as a guarantor power, always stood by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Turkish Cypriot people with all its capabilities.

Tatar said that the situation as well as developments was being closely monitored and that Türkiye was working for the peace and security of the region with superior capabilities, urging the people not to worry.

Expressing his hope for a de-escalation in tensions in the region, the president said that Turkish Cypriots always had a say in the region and want to continue their lives in peace, tranquility, and security, noting that due to Cyprus’ geographical location, there may be unexpected developments at any time, but there is no danger that will affect the security of the people.

Tatar reassured the public, saying, “Our people should be at ease,” stating that developments are being closely monitored at the highest level.

Also speaking, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu stated that the security of the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriots was under the guarantee of the Republic of Türkiye within the framework of international law.

He said that the public should be at ease and emphasized that Türkiye unconditionally stood by the TRNC as an ally and is the guarantee of peace and tranquillity throughout the region.

Highlighting that there has been peace in the region for 50 years, Feyzioğlu noted that Türkiye, under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has shown great leadership for this cause and expressed hope that his example would be followed.
