Türkiye is closely following the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus’ attempts for NATO membership.
Sources from the Turkish Ministry of National Defence evaluated South Cyprus’ NATO membership initiatives.
According to the statement made by Ministry sources, “Türkiye, as a NATO member country, recalls that the alliance’s enlargement decisions are taken unanimously and argues that these processes should be carried out taking into account the national security concerns of any country. Currently, the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus has no application for NATO membership, but even its attempts are an unacceptable development for Türkiye. This initiative will disrupt the delicate balance in the Cyprus issue and negatively affect the negotiation processes towards a solution.”
