Acting President Zorlu Töre has said that although the world is trying to eliminate the TRNC, it remains a gift from all martyrs to the Turkish Cypriots.

Töre underscored that the TRNC will continue on its path as an independent Turkish state.

The founder of the Turkish Resistance Organisation (TMT), the late retired Major General Daniş Karabelen was remembered on Thursday on the 41st anniversary of his death.

The ceremony held at the TMT Veterans Association Headquarters began with a moment of silence and the recital of the national anthem.

This was followed by a reading of Daniş Karabelen’s biography.

TMT Veterans Association President Celal Bayar delivered the first speech, expressing the honour of commemorating Daniş Karabelen, who played a pivotal role in the Turkish Cypriot struggle for existence.

Bayar recounted the history of TMT’s founding and emphasized that the heroic commanders who approved and passionately served the organization would never be forgotten.

He noted that many significant figures, especially Karabelen, contributed to the success of this project.

Also speaking Özcan Atamert, daughter of Daniş Karabelen, mentioned that the TMT Veterans Association has been commemorating her father for 40 years.

She highlighted her father’s dedication alongside his comrades and expressed her honour and pride in being in the TRNC.

Atamert stressed that her father is never forgotten by the people of Cyprus and concluded her speech by reading a poem she wrote for Cyprus.

Acting President Zorlu Töre also spoke at the ceremony.

Honouring the memory of Daniş Karabelen and other Turkish commanders, Töre said, “These heroes do not die; they live among us.”

He pointed out that Turkish Cypriots had been overjoyed with the arrival of the heroic Turkish Armed Forces on July 20, 1974.

“Now the whole world is trying to end the guarantees and eliminate the TRNC, but the TRNC is a gift from all our martyrs, not from anyone else,” Töre said, reinforcing that the TRNC will continue as an independent Turkish state.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of plaques prepared in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Peace Operation.
