As part of the “Rebirth of Felt in Northern Cyprus Project,” the “Keçada” brand was promoted at a special event last night.

The project, led by first lady Sibel Tatar, aims to protect cultural heritage, preserve the environment, promote the country and contribute to the economy.

Speaking during the promotional launch, President Tatar expressed his gratitude to his wife and her team for leading the project.

Sibel Tatar for her part explained that the project serves three purposes: recycling to benefit the environment, preserving cultural heritage, and empowering women through economic opportunities.

She highlighted the fact that tons of sheared wool were previously thrown away but are now being utilized, resulting in environmental protection and economic growth.

The project aims to revive the tradition of felt-making, an important part of Turkish Cypriot culture.

The event also recognized those who contributed to the project, including the Mehmetçik Büyükkonuk Mayor Fatma Çimen Tuğlu, President of the Association for Research and Sustenance of Turkish Cypriot Handicrafts Dervişe Çeliker, and Bülent Günkut, who showcased felt-based products during a fashion show.
