The Konya Metropolitan Municipality which has taken on a responsibility of reviving the Maraş area has donated 600 bicycles to the Gazimağusa Municipality to be used in the Maraş area.
The Konya Metropolitan Municipality has been contributing to the landscaping of the section of Maraş that was opened to public visits since October 8.
The bicycles were donated to the Gazimağusa municipality within the framework of the contributions
The head of the Turkic World Municipalities Union and Konya Metropolitain Municipality Mayor Ibrahim Altay who had visited the Maraş area along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish Minister for Environment and Urbanisation Murat Kurum on Sunday spoke to the Anadolu Agency on Maraş.
Altay drew attention to the strong historical and cultural ties that exist between Konya and the TRNC.
Noting that the Konya Municipality and the Gazimağusa municipality are sister cities, he said they had donated 600 bikes to the Gazimağusa municipality so that they could be used in the Maraş area.
“We also donated a cleaning truck, a garbage truck and a street sprinkler” said Altay.
Noting that the Turkish Ministry for Environment and Urbanisation and the Public Housing Administration were working on a reconstruction project in the area, Altay said that they had worked together to asphalt the area, do landscaping and revamp the beachfront.
“Up until today we have always supported Cyprus and we will continue to do so in the future as well” said Altay, adding that the fenced-off city of Maraş was of vital importance for them.
