The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (TRNC) Ambassador to Ankara, İsmet Korukoğlu, delivered a speech at a panel entitled “Cyprus through the Legal Perspective” organized by the Ankara Bar Association.
Pointing out that the Seville Map prepared jointly by the Greek Cypriots and Greeks revealed the ambitions of the duo, Ambassador Korukoğlu said, “This is a fundamental indication that the security of Türkiye, which we refer to as the Blue Homeland doctrine, begins with Cyprus.”
Stating that Türkiye’s and the Turkish Cypriot side’s new perspective on the Cyprus issue had emerged after decades of failed talks, he explained that President Ersin Tatar had formulated and presented this new perspective to the Greek Cypriot side and the UN after assuming office.
He added that its confirmation requires a UN Security Council resolution that accepts a two-state solution and sovereign equality.
Also referring to the steps taken regarding the issue of the fenced-off city of Maraş, Ambassador Korukoğlu explained that they had opened public spaces, streets, and a few beaches at the fenced-off town for public visitation.
Stating that they had also taken steps regarding property rights, he explained that Greek Cypriots claiming ownership within the pilot area, which represents about 3.5% of the fenced-off city of Maraş, have the right to apply to the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).
