Ceremonies are continuing in line with the 21st to the 25th National Struggle and Martyrs Week.
Those who were martyred in Küçük Kaymaklı and Martyr Hüseyin Ruso during the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriot people were commemorated today with a ceremony.
President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, representatives of non-governmental organizations, institutions, military personnel and students all attended the ceremony.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony President Ersin Tatar said that 61 years ago, Greek Cypriots organized brutal attacks in order to erase Turkish Cypriots from the stage of history and connect the island to Greece.
Stating that Turkish Cypriots were martyred in order to protect their lands with heroism, perseverance and determination, Tatar stated that the support of Motherland Türkiye and the heroism of the Turkish Resistance Organisation TMT carried the Turkish Cypriots to where they are today.
“We will not forget the past, we will not let it be forgotten,” Tatar said, “If we are in peace today, we owe this to the martyrs. It is a sense of loyalty to commemorate them with mercy and gratitude.”
“The TRNC state is precious,” Tatar said, emphasizing that if there will be an agreement, the TRNC state will be a part of this agreement.
Stating that Turkish Cypriots are a people who have gone through genocide, paid a price, martyrs and losses, Tatar stated that the TRNC is a sacred trust and a will to be passed on to future generations.
