Following his joint press conference with President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmuş’s next stop was the Republic’s Assembly.
Töre and Kurtulmuş conveyed important messages after their meeting.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Zorlu Töre, said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was continuing on its path with the strong support of Türkiye, and that the Turkish Cypriot people, despite the isolations and embargoes imposed by the world, had been able to sustain its national existence through that support.
The Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Kurtulmuş for his part stressed that the model for a solution in Cyprus was very clear and that the world needed to acknowledge the existence of the two sovereign peoples.
The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş on Tuesday visited the Republic’s Assembly as part of his contacts in the TRNC where he met with his TRNC counterpart Zorlu Töre.
Speaking after the meeting, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre drew attention to the historic struggle waged by the Turkish Cypriot people and stressed that the Turkish nation was an inseparable whole.
He added that the TRNC was continuing on its path with the strong support of Türkiye, and despite the isolations and embargoes imposed by the world, the Turkish Cypriot people had maintained its national existence through that support.
“Our identity is our national cause. The Turkish Cypriot people’s interests cannot be separated from that of the Turkish nation,” Töre said adding that the observer status granted to the TRNC by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was a very important development.
He also described the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in New York for the lifting of the isolations as a historic call.”
Referring to President Erdoğan’s word’s that, “the world is bigger than five,” he stressed that this was a significant expression, pointing out that the world does not fulfil its promises.
Noting that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo continued to conduct military exercises, and that the continuation of the guarantees provided by Türkiye was the sole reassurance for the security of the Turkish Cypriot people, Töre stressed that the Turkish Cypriots cannot under any circumstances abandon their state.
“We will not make any compromises from our independence. All Turkic Republics will become stronger with a strong Türkiye in the new century,” he added.
The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş began his words by expressing his gratitude to Töre for his gracious hospitality and kind words.
Kurtulmuş highlighted that his first official visit abroad to the TRNC following his election as Speaker of the Parliament, was part of Türkiye’s state tradition and practice, demonstrating Ankara’s commitment to the national cause and the Turkish Cypriot people as well as its determination to do all it can for the lifting of the embargoes, restrictions, and isolation that has been strangling the Turkish Cypriot people for years.
“If the Republic of Türkiye did not have the right of guarantee here, and if the 1974 Peace Operation had not been carried out, we would not be able to talk about the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus today,” he stressed.
Kurtulmuş also said that the model for a solution in Cyprus was also very clear.
“The solution is very clear, very evident. Accepting the fact that there are two sovereign peoples existing on the island would be one of the most rational acknowledgments by the world’s political circles. Türkiye has always advocated this thesis, despite the efforts of some circles to deny it and to continue imposing embargoes. In the end, the reality of life and politics prevails; this is the reality of Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriot people are sovereign, independent, and determined to preserve their existence until the end of time,” the TGNA speaker said.
Kurtulmuş also expressed the belief that it will be beneficial for both sides for the two peoples on the island to cooperate, to come up with joint projects and to be in dialogue.
