The action plan prepared with the results of the Child Rights Workshop, which was held for the first time in the country under the auspices of the Presidency and the leadership of First Lady Sibel Tatar, was promoted with an event at the Presidency.

The Draft Law on Juvenile Justice, which is within the scope of the action plan and prepared under the leadership of First Lady Sibel Tatar, was presented to the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre.

Presidential Legal Counsel Attorney Ziba Akkurt gave information about the Juvenile Justice Draft Law at the launch.

Noting that the Juvenile Justice Draft Law was prepared with the aim of protecting the rights of children driven into crime and reintegrating them into society, Akkurt underlined the importance of securing the rights of juvenile delinquents by setting up special juvenile courts.

A member of the Women, Family and Child Committee, Assoc. Prof Dr. Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen also shared the details of the 3-year action plan.

Stressing that it was inevitable to reorganize laws for the protection of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, Erbilen noted that the focus should be on preventative measures to protect children from neglect and abuse.

Stating that a National Action Plan covering the years 2023-2025 was created to ensure that children living in the country are healthy, happy and safe, Erbilen stated that short, medium and long-term plans have been made.

First Lady Sibel Tatar for her part stressed that children should be given the value they deserve and said “our children are the joy of our lives and the future of our society. They are the most precious assets of tomorrow.”

Also addressing the event, President Ersin Tatar touched upon the importance of the workshop and the action plan, thanking everyone who contributed.

“I hope the Draft Law on Juvenile Justice will be approved by parliament as soon as possible and will be instrumental in raising our children in the best way in terms of health, education and justice,” the president said.

“It is the duty of the state to ensure the future of our children in the best way possible. At this point, it is important to protect our state. In this sense, as the Office of the President, we have contributed to social studies. The messages we can give are important not only on the Cyprus issue, but also in terms of increasing the social value of the society. Such studies are important in carrying our people to the future,” Tatar added.
