Lefkoşa-Girne interchange construction begins
Date Added: 08 January 2025

The long-awaited Girne Interchange project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion between Girne and Lefkoşa, has officially begun.

Part of the TRNC Highway Master Plan, the project is included in the “Lefkoşa Peripheral Road Section Construction” initiative and is expected to be completed by the end of April.

The interchange on the Lefkoşa-Girne dual carriage way will consist of a bridge supported by two side piers and one central pier located in the median.

During construction, significant traffic diversions will be in place to facilitate the installation of the central pier and bridge beams.

Traffic moving from Girne to Lefkoşa will be redirected to the Lefkoşa Peripheral Road.

Meanwhile, in the Lefkoşa-to-Girne direction, the lane near the central pier construction site will be closed, and traffic will flow through a single lane on the right-hand side.

Drivers traveling between Girne and Lefkoşa have been advised to use alternative routes, including accessing Fazıl Küçük Boulevard via the Dikmen Cloverleaf Interchange or making a U-turn at the same interchange to reach the Gönyeli Roundabout.

Authorities have called on drivers to exercise caution and comply with the posted instructions to ensure safety and minimize disruptions during the construction period.
